Idaho One-Party
Licensing & Regulation
Idaho does not maintain a statewide PI license. Investigators operate under standard business registrations and any local municipal licensing requirements. Some Idaho PIs hold credentials from professional associations or are licensed in neighboring states.
Physical Surveillance
Public surveillance is permitted. Idaho has aggressive trespass and stalking statutes. GPS tracking without the owner's consent is risky and may be charged under Idaho Code §18-7906 (stalking).
Audio & Video Recording Consent
Idaho is a one-party-consent state under Idaho Code §18-6702. Video voyeurism is a separate felony.
Domestic, Marital & Infidelity Investigations
Idaho is a community-property state with both fault and no-fault divorce. Adultery is a statutory ground. PIs commonly document infidelity. Accessing a spouse's accounts may violate Idaho Code §18-2202 (computer crime).
Cybersecurity, Hacking & Digital Investigations
Idaho Code §18-2201 et seq. (computer crimes) parallels the CFAA. OSINT is permitted; pretexting is barred federally.
Missing Persons, Skip Tracing & Harassment
Idaho State Police coordinate missing-persons matters. DPPA fully applies. Idaho's stalking statute is broad and applies to repeated surveillance.
